According to the book Freedom at Midnight, Vicky Noon escaped the communal violence of Partition with great difficulty as she was being hunted specifically as the wife of Feroze Khan Noon. She was in Kulu, her vacation home near Simla when the houses of her Muslim neighbors were burnt down. She took refuge in the house of a close friend, the Hindu Raja of Mandi. However, as the threats increased and began targeting the Raja’s family, she crossed the border after disguising herself as an Indian with the help of the Raja and Gautam Sahgal, a Hindu cement dealer who her husband had sent to rescue her.
